Up-to-date=more and more?

Nowadays we sell our land to rich people in order for them to build representations of the modern society, forgetting about how good and healthy life was 50 years ago, in a more natural stage...but words are just not enough for those to understand when "having more and more money" it's a diurnally desire...
I just wonder why don't we attribute this hunger for some positive things, for helping people for example, without expecting something in return? Of course nowadays the tendency to do this kind of things is because "it's fashionable" or because a celebrity did it, forgetting that you don't do something good like charity for example, just because someone you like did it before and it's nice to imitate them in every aspect of life; you either learn it in your years of education and it becomes part of your personality or you forget about it on your way through life because the hunger for money becomes a principle for you...
